It’s important to assist your body with detox to promote long-term vitality. We are potentially exposed to toxins in our food and water supply, in our personal and household hygiene products, and in our environment. The good news is that there are many simple things you can do as part of your daily rituals to cleanse and rejuvenate your system.
Epsom salt baths
Epsom salts contain magnesium and sulfate, which have compelling health benefits that can enhance the body’s detoxification capabilities. Take a nice long Epsom salt bath regularly as part of your relaxation and self-care regime to remove the toxins from your body and absorb the minerals through your skin.
Dry body brushing
Your skin, the body’s largest organ, plays a crucial role in supporting detoxification. But, if it’s covered with dead skin cells, it won’t be able to eliminate wastes from your body efficiently. Dry skin brushing not only removes dead skin cells, but it also activates waste removal via your lymphatic system.
Oil pulling
An Ayurvedic ritual, oil pulling, is an effective oral detoxification process that is done by swishing a tablespoon of oil such as coconut, olive, or sesame oil in your mouth for several minutes (maybe while you are cleaning house or doing other things).
Massage
Massage holds amazing benefits. It relaxes the body and mind, which also helps detox. Additionally, when pressure is applied to muscle tissue and fat stores during the rhythmic strokes of massage therapy, toxins are released into the circulatory system from in between the muscle fibers and cells for enhanced elimination capabilities.
Far-infrared saunas
Far-infrared saunas can help eliminate chemicals and metals efficiently through the skin in the form of sweat. It’s wise to drink a tall glass of mineralized water before entering and to use the sauna for no more than 30 minutes at a time. After, take a warm or cool shower, avoid using products containing chemical ingredients. Continue to drink plenty of water and relax post sauna. You can add extra sea salt or seaweed to your diet to replace the electrolytes lost through sweating.
Exercise
Daily physical activity opens up the sweat glands and detoxifies the skin through sweat. Exercising also promotes the circulation of blood and lymph (a clear fluid containing white blood cells that flow through our bodies), allowing organs such as the lymph nodes and liver to cleanse these bodily fluids.
Drinking ample water before, during, and after exercise also helps the body detox more efficiently because the water allows the kidneys to filter toxins more efficiently. It enhances respiratory function, tones the lungs with faster and deeper breaths, and oxygenates the cells of the entire body. Furthermore, exercise improves digestion, allowing for better waste removal and healthier intestines.
Sleep
Researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) Center for Translational Neuromedicine published a report that reveals that the brain has a unique method of removing toxic waste through the lymphatic system. This system raises its activity during sleep, allowing the brain to clear out toxins, including harmful proteins linked to brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s. They also discovered that brain cells shrink approximately 60 percent during sleep, allowing for more efficient waste removal.
Stress management
In a chronically stressful environment, the body’s stress response is always switched on, which means there is a constant surge of stress hormones flooding its system, as well as an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. When this happens, the stress becomes toxic and can cause many health issues. When stress is managed via mindfulness, loving self-care, and supportive relationships, people can get through stressful times easier.
Hydrate
Water helps us to detoxify by forming urine, sweat, and stool. Sipping on warm water is deeply hydrating and helps relieve constipation, cleanse your digestive system and assist your lymphatic system by increasing fluid circulation and encouraging better waste removal. It is helpful to source pure spring water or filtered water, but is not absolutely necessary.
Focus on food quality
Stay away from processed foods and beverages with a high glycemic load, which are acid, inflammatory, and nutrient-poor. There’s so much focus on what we put into our bodies, eating organic and non-GMO foods, that we sometimes forget to look at what we put onto our bodies. Personal care items like shower gel, lotions, shampoos, cosmetics, and toothpaste can contain a long list of chemicals that are just as harmful. Unlike toxins that enter our bodies through the intelligent GI tract, chemicals on our skin are absorbed into the bloodstream without any filtering.
Think of the cumulative effects of long-term use. Many skincare ingredients have been linked to allergies, neurological disorders, and reproductive issues. We’re fans of developing a clean beauty routine, as part of our daily ritual. Other products that we use daily, such as household cleaners, medications, alcohol, and garden pesticides can cause health issues. Whenever possible, opt for natural alternatives.

Eat nutrient-dense whole foods grown organically in mineral-rich soil or responsibly raised. Prioritize rest, sleep, and physical activity each day. Spend time in nature, soaking up the sun’s rays and breathing in fresh air. Reduce your exposure to toxic chemicals by opting for natural alternatives where possible. Create and maintain a positive environment that nourishes your spirit.
