Erewhon Smoothie Dupes: 3 Clean Copycats of Popular Recipes
Each of these Erewhon copycat recipes is made with nutrient-dense, cleanse-friendly ingredients you can whip up right in your kitchen, so you can enjoy the same luxe taste and feel-good benefits anytime at home.
Meet the viral wellness trend that’s lighting up social media: Erewhon smoothies. These vibrant, nutrient-packed drinks hail from the LA-based grocery chain Erewhon. And thanks to their celebrity and influencer buzz, they’ve become a symbol of luxury in the wellness world.
But with $20 price tags and limited locations, they’re not the most practical or accessible option for most people. That’s why we created clean copycat versions of three popular Erewhon smoothies.
Each recipe is made with nutrient-dense, cleanse-friendly ingredients you can whip up right in your kitchen. So you can enjoy the same luxe taste and feel-good benefits whenever you like from home.
Coconut Cloud Smoothie Recipe
First is our Clean take on one of Erewhon’s most iconic blends: the coconut cloud smoothie. This drink’s vibrant hue comes from blue spirulina, a blue-green algae packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds.
Our copycat version uses cleanse-approved ingredients and a trio of healthy fats for sustained energy. Avocado and almond butter add a creamy texture, while whipped coconut cream gives this smoothie its signature cloud effect. Pineapple adds a touch of natural sweetness along with digestive health benefits. A scoop of our Vanilla Daily Shake ties it all together for a nourishing smoothie that looks just as good as it tastes.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving
- 1 cup pineapple
- ¾ cup unsweetened plain almond milk
- ¼ canned coconut cream (refrigerated overnight)
- 1 tbsp almond butter
- ¼ large avocado (or ½ medium)
- 1 scoop Clean Daily Shake Vanilla
- 1 tsp blue spirulina (plus more)
Directions
1. First, prepare the coconut cream. Place a can of coconut cream in the fridge overnight to help the cream separate from the liquid. Carefully scoop out the cream from the top and place it in a bowl.
2. Whip the coconut cream using a whisk or hand mixer for a few minutes until it becomes fluffy. Once it’s ready, reserve ¼ cup (4 tbsp) for this smoothie and store the rest in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
3. Add the pineapple, almond milk, almond butter, 1 tbsp coconut cream, blue spirulina, avocado, and Daily Shake to a high-speed blender. Blend for a minute until smooth and creamy.
4. Now comes the fun part! Add 2 tbsp of coconut cream to the bottom of your smoothie glass. Use a small spatula to smear the cream onto the sides of the glass in whatever pattern you wish. This will form the “clouds” once you pour in the smoothie.
5. Sprinkle a bit of blue spirulina onto the bottom of the glass and the smears on the side so they’ll stick.
6. Carefully pour your smoothie into the middle of the glass and watch the clouds appear.
7. Top with one more tbsp of coconut cream and serve immediately. Enjoy!
Recipe tips
- Watch for spills: Blue spirulina is messy and can stain fabric and clothing. To prevent a mess, you may want to scoop it over the sink.
- Be choosy with coconut cream: Some brands of coconut cream, like Trader Joe’s, have a grainy texture and don’t whip well. If you can, choose Whole Foods 365 or Native Forest brands. Both whip beautifully.
Turmeric Crush Smoothie Recipe
Next, this golden blend is inspired by Erewhon’s turmeric crush smoothie, with a few Clean upgrades. The original includes a medley of juices, like orange, carrot, and beet. While juices are nutritious, they lack fiber and can contribute to blood sugar spikes. In our copycat version, we’ve skipped the OJ and included a whole carrot instead, for a gentler, fiber-rich option.
Mango, pineapple, and carrot give this smoothie natural sweetness, while lemon and ginger brighten the flavor and support digestion. A scoop of our Daily Shake boosts the protein and nutrient content, while turmeric brings the anti-inflammatory benefits. We finish it off with a splash of beet juice for that signature swirl, without the sugar rush.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving
- 2 tbsp beet juice
- 1 large carrot
- ½ cup fresh pineapple
- ¾ cup frozen mango
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 small knob of fresh ginger (about an inch)
- 1 tsp turmeric
- Small pinch of pepper (see recipe note below)
- 1 scoop Vanilla Daily Shake
-
1 cup of ice
Directions
1. Add the pineapple, mango, carrot, lemon juice, ginger, turmeric, pepper, Daily Shake, and ice into a high-speed blender. For easier blending, add softer ingredients like pineapple first and harder ingredients like the carrot last. You may want to chop the carrot into a few pieces to make your blender’s job easier.
2. Blend on high until well combined. If your blender has a wand, feel free to use it to get the blending process started. Scraping down the sides of the blender with a small spatula can also help get everything mixed.
3. Pour the beet juice into the bottom of your smoothie glass. Swirl it around so it coats the sides of the glass.
4. Pour the blended smoothie into the glass and enjoy!
Recipe tips
- Add a splash of water: If needed, add a tablespoon of water at a time to help the blender mix smoothly.
- Wipe up spills quickly: Beet juice and turmeric can both stain countertops and clothing. Keep an eye out for spills and wipe them up immediately.
- Don’t skip the pepper: Turmeric’s active ingredient, curcumin, is a powerful anti-inflammatory compound. But it has poor bioavailability. That’s where pepper comes in. Pepper contains a compound called piperine that can enhance curcumin absorption by as much as 2,000%! And it only takes a small pinch.
Vanilla Matcha Smoothie Recipe
Matcha takes center stage in this creamy, nutrient-packed smoothie. We used Clean’s ceremonial grade matcha to support calm, focused energy and gentle detoxification. We kept other key ingredients like coconut cream and vanilla, but simplified things with a handful of spinach, almond milk, and our Vanilla Daily Shake.
Inspired by one of Erewhon’s most popular blends, this copycat keeps the green hue and earthy, sweet flavor. But this version’s creamy texture comes from avocado, instead of sea moss gel, which can be expensive and hard to find. A spoonful of tocos enhances the creaminess while supporting a healthy glow.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving
- 1 ½ cups unsweetened plain almond milk
- 1 tsp Clean ceremonial grade matcha
- 1 scoop Vanilla Clean Daily Shake
- 1 cup spinach
- ¼ large avocado (or ½ medium)
- ¼ cup canned coconut cream (divided)*
- 1 tbsp tocos
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 tsp coconut nectar (to taste)
*Refer to the Coconut Cloud Smoothie directions above on how to make coconut cream.
Directions
1. Add the almond milk, matcha, Daily Shake, spinach, avocado, 1 tbsp coconut cream, tocos, vanilla, and coconut nectar to a high-speed blender. Blend on high until smooth and creamy.
2. Place 2 tbsp of coconut cream at the bottom of a glass and sprinkle with a bit of matcha.
3. Pour the smoothie into the glass and top with another tbsp of coconut cream and a sprinkle of matcha. Serve immediately and enjoy!
