A Valentine’s Day Recipe That Loves You Back
As the sober-curious movement grows, so has the demand for mocktails. And while we’re all for cutting back on booze, not all mocktails are created equal. Many popular mocktails, like Shirley Temples, are loaded with sugary syrups, sodas, or other inflammatory ingredients.
You won’t find any of those in this coconut water mocktail. Instead, this delicious drink is filled with superfoods that nourish your health and well-being.
Here’s a look at the benefits this mocktail delivers:
Benefits of Magnesium
Magnesium is a mineral involved in over 600 enzymatic reactions in your body. It supports energy production, blood sugar regulation, and muscle function, and is vital for a healthy nervous system.
Magnesium is especially crucial for mood and stress management. It helps regulate neurotransmitters to balance your nervous system and keep you calm.
Unfortunately, many people don’t get enough magnesium. According to experts, roughly 60% of Americans are low on this nutrient. Chronic stress can also deplete magnesium in the body, leading to further imbalances.
That’s why it’s essential to get enough magnesium each day. And this magnesium mocktail is a simple and delicious way to do that.
Benefits of Coconut Water
Coconut water makes the perfect healthy drink to restore hydration. It’s chock full of electrolytes like sodium, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. In fact, one cup of coconut water boasts 600 mg of potassium—180 mg more than a banana! And unlike sports or electrolyte drinks, coconut water contains no artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners.
The electrolytes in coconut water make it the perfect drink to recharge post-workout. It replenishes minerals lost through sweating and helps prevent and reduce muscle cramps. Some studies even suggest coconut water may restore hydration after exercise better than water.
Coconut water has a subtle sweetness when enjoyed on its own. But you can also enhance its flavor by adding fresh fruit as we did in this mocktail. Citrus, berries, or tropical fruit all pair well with coconut water.
Gut Health Benefits
The ingredients in this mocktail are also good for your gut. Coconut water is rich in natural enzymes that support digestion. But it’s also packed with antioxidants and nutrients that promote a healthy gut microbiome.
The magnesium in this mocktail adds more gut health benefits to the mix. Magnesium draws water into the intestines and relaxes muscles in your digestive tract. This helps keep your bowels moving to prevent constipation.
Fresh ginger gives this mocktail a spicy kick and further enhances the gut health benefits. Ginger is proven to relieve nausea and support digestion. It speeds up gastric emptying, meaning it helps food move through your digestive tract more quickly.
The raspberries in this mocktail add more gut-friendly benefits. Raspberries are rich in polyphenols, compounds that are proven to promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.
All in all, this mocktail makes a delicious gut-friendly alternative to sugary or processed drinks. Whether you're trying to cut back on alcohol, cleansing with Clean 7 or Clean 21, or simply want a healthy drink to recharge, this mocktail is a must-try.
And now comes the fun part—let’s whip one up!
