Smoothie bowls contain all of the nutrient density of our beloved Clean Program smoothies, with a slight change in texture to mix things up on your 21-day Cleanse or change up your AM smoothie routine. This bowl tastes like chocolate ice cream, and you won’t believe its sugar-free and loaded with produce. The best part is you’ll feel like you’re eating dessert for breakfast!
The avocado in this cacao smoothie bowl is a perfect base to create a creamy texture that makes this bowl feel indulgent. The mild flavor is perfect up against the raw cacao and allows the chocolatey flavor to really shine through. Avocado is incredibly rich in potassium, even more so than bananas. This is important for preventing dehydration and muscle spasms from Activity. Consuming high levels of potassium has been linked to a decreased risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, and improved kidney health. Avocados also contain more than a quart of our vitamin K requirement, plus folate, vitamin C, B6, and vitamin E.
We’ve talked about it before, and we’ll talk about it again: oleic acid. This is the type of fat found in avocados and is the main reason they are so incredibly good for our body. Oleic acid helps fight inflammation throughout the body, which is believed to be one of the main causes of chronic illness like cancer and heart disease. In fact, high oleic acid consumption has specifically been linked to decreasing your risk for cancer.
Sweet potatoes (or any vegetable) may seem like an unlikely ingredient in a chocolate smoothie bowl. But as we know from our love of green smoothies, vegetables do a great job of hiding in smoothies, to add nutrients while allowing the smoothie to stay sweet. After trying this bowl, we think you’ll agree: sweet potatoes may take the award for best smoothie vegetable. They are not only rich in nutrients, but their mild, sweet flavor is the perfect component of this smoothie. During your cleanse, and for those who don’t tolerate bananas, this is a great banana-free recipe to choose.
Sweet potatoes are one of the richest sources of beta-carotene and they help to increase our body’s vitamin A content. This is beneficial to our skin and eye health, immunity, and fighting free radicals. It’s important to consume beta-carotene with fat (like avocado or almond butter) to help our body absorb the nutrient.
Ingredients:
Cacao Smoothie Bowl:
1 cup nut milk
1 avocado
1 medium sweet potato, steamed and frozen
1/4 cup raw cacao powder
2 tablespoons raw almond butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1-2 dates
pinch of salt
2 scoops Chocolate Daily Shake (or Cleanse Shake packet)
We recommend adding 1 scoop of Integrity for good gut health.
Topping:
unsweetened coconut
raw cacao nibs
macadamia nuts
Step 1: Slice sweet potato. Steam sweet potato pieces until cooked through. Place in airtight container and freeze overnight. If you’re in a pinch for time, simply steam and cool potatoes and add ice to your blender.
Step 2: Add all ingredients, except milk, to blender. Add 1/2 of milk to blender and blend on high. Add only the amount of milk required to make the mixture smooth (this will help keep the mixture thick so it’s a thick texture and not simply a smoothie). Using frozen sweet potato also helps ensure that the mixture will remain thick.
Step 3: Divide the mixture into two bowls and add desired toppings. Serve Immediately.
