Cantaloupe Smoothie With Fresh Mint - A Refreshing Treat

Cantaloupe Smoothie With Fresh Mint - A Refreshing Treat

Cantaloupe has an unfair reputation as a fruit salad filler, it’s the melon we push around on our plates, preferring to stick our forks in blueberries and kiwi. Instead of casting cantaloupe off to the side, we gave it the starring role in a refreshing summer smoothie. Naturally sweet and ultra-hydrating, we’re going to be sipping this cantaloupe smoothie all season long.

Cantaloupe is actually good

Cantaloupe can be dense and bland if it’s not picked at the peak of freshness. This is usually the stuff we find sitting out at hotel breakfast buffets – not exactly tasty. When ripe, cantaloupe is butter soft and perfectly sweet. This humble fruit is chock full of beta-carotene and acts as a powerful antioxidant to help fight free radicals in the body. It’s also a rich source of folate, which may offer protection in the early stages of cancer.

Naturally sweet

While cantaloupe lends delicious sweetness to this smoothie, peaches kick the flavor up a notch. Peaches are a terrific source of vitamin C, which works to improve our skin texture while fighting skin damage caused by the sun. When selecting coconut water for your smoothie, look for pure coconut water free of added sugars and preservatives. Coconut water contains electrolytes and potassium, which help replenish fluids lost through sweat – critical in the summer heat.

Plant-based protein

Fresh mint gives this cantaloupe smoothie a refreshing kick, but it will change the color. If you prefer a smoothie that looks as pretty as it tastes, garnish with mint leaves and nibble on them whole. Adding hemp seeds to the smoothie is optional, but it’s an easy way to squeeze in 10 grams of protein. To make this smoothie a meal, blend in a scoop of vanilla Daily Shake.

Serves 1

1 cup cantaloupe

¼ cup coconut water

½ small peach, sliced

5 to 7 fresh mint leaves

3 Tbsp. hemp seeds

1 tsp. fresh ginger, grated

1 scoop vanilla Daily Shake

Ice cubes

Step 1: Slice the cantaloupe in half and scrape out the seeds. Use a spoon to scoop the fruit into a measuring cup.

Step 2: Add the coconut water, cantaloupe, peach, mint, hemp seeds, ginger, and ice cubes to a blender. If you want to preserve the color of the smoothie, you can always leave the mint leaves out and use as a garnish instead.

Step 3: Blend on high for 30 seconds, or until smooth.

Step 4: Pour the smoothie into a glass and garnish with fresh mint and hemp seeds.
