Homemade Matcha Ice Cream

Homemade Matcha Ice Cream

We’ve taken your favorite creamy, perfectly sweet matcha latte and turned it into cleanse-approved ice cream. The base is made of avocados, and the result is incredibly decadent and satisfying. Keep a big batch of matcha ice cream in your freezer for those times when you’re craving dessert!

Sweet, sweet avocados

Avocados, while traditionally eaten in savory dishes, work incredibly well in a dessert. They are mild in flavor and thanks to their high-fat content, they are very creamy. They blend and freeze well, making them perfect for ice cream and smoothies alike. If you have any picky eaters who don’t love the taste of avocado, this may be the perfect recipe to sneak them in.

Avocados are rich in vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin E, folate, and potassium. Folate is an important mineral, particularly for pregnant women. Folate is a type of B vitamin that helps the body make new white and red blood cells. It is particularly important during stages of rapid growth, which is why it’s so crucial for pregnant women, infants, and adolescents. During pregnancy, folate supports growth and helps prevent neural tube defects.

Avocados are particularly high in vitamin K. Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that is necessary for blood clotting and regulating calcium levels in the blood. Adequate vitamin K levels are also important for bone health and preventing osteoporosis. It supports bone maintenance and improves bone density.

We love it so matcha

We love matcha so much at Clean that we created our own high-quality, organic matcha powder. Quality of matcha can vary hugely, and we recommend buying an organic, ceremonial grade powder. We love matcha as a replacement for coffee while cleansing since it provides the same morning ritual and energy boost. Matcha is made by grinding green tea leaves and is consumed whole. Since the whole leaf is eaten, rather than seeped, matcha is an even denser source of antioxidants than traditional green tea.

In addition to sipping matcha in its pure form, it’s an excellent addition to baked goods, smoothies, and desserts like this ice cream. Matcha has been touted for its positive impact on metabolism, decreasing anxiety, and improving mood and focus.

Ingredients:

5 ripe avocados

2.5 cups full-fat, canned coconut milk

3 tablespoons lemon juice

1/4- 1/2 cup coconut palm nectar (or maple syrup, if not cleansing)

3-4 teaspoons matcha

2 teaspoons vanilla

1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:

Step 1: Remove skin and pits from avocados. Juice lemons.

Step 2: Add all ingredients to a food processor. Blend on high until the mixture is creamy and smooth. If the mixture is too thick to fully blend, add one tablespoon of filtered water until it blends properly. Taste the mixture as you go to determine appropriate nectar and matcha amounts for your tastes.

Step 3: Pour mixture into a glass loaf pan. Cover and put in the freezer for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight. Remove matcha ice cream from the freezer 10-20 minutes before serving to allow to soften.
