Chill Out With An Antioxidant-Rich Hibiscus Fresca

Chill Out With An Antioxidant-Rich Hibiscus Fresca

hibiscus-ingredients

We might be melting in the city streets, but an icy
Hibiscus Fresca is an antioxidant-loaded treat we can enjoy every day on the 21-Day Clean Program and during maintenance. We love the flowery refreshing taste of this chill beverage.

The cool factor of hibiscus

We love making ice teas in the summertime and
coming up with different mixtures to cool us down from peppermint tea with lemon, green
tea with ginger and fresh mint, and of course hibiscus tea.
The most surprising thing about this flowery ingredient is how naturally sweet it is. This tea is often used to lower fever and contains properties that can help lower blood pressure and reduce inflammation in the body.

Along with its cooling properties, hibiscus is rich in antioxidants and minerals. It can help relieve painful hormonal imbalance symptoms such as menstrual cramping and can reduce bloating and may even aid in weight loss.

A flavorful hibiscus treat

The most surprising thing about hibiscus is how naturally sweet it is. Its flavor is
very similar to cranberry with less of sourness. For this recipe, we’ve added a tiny bit of cleanse-approved coconut
sugar, but it almost doesn’t need it if you prefer not to use it.

The ginger in our recipe works synergistically with the other ingredients to aid in the digestive and detoxifying processes. Ginger can help reduce nausea, inflammation, anxiety and depression, and it’s full of potassium and magnesium.

Hibiscus tea is an extremely popular staple food around the world and is often used as a
medicinal healing tea. Our recipe is the perfect refreshing and healing tonic to cool off with on a hot
summer day. This is also a great recipe to make in bulk and serve at a BBQ or
 dinner party.

4 cups boiling water
3 tablespoons hibiscus leaves
2 inch piece of ginger (peeled and thinly sliced)

Juice of 1 lime

Instructions:

Boil 4 cups of water. Peel and slice the ginger.

hibiscus-brew

Add the ginger, hibiscus leaves, coconut sugar, and boiling water into a French press or teapot with a steeper. If you don’t have either of these you can just pour everything in a large boil and allow to steep then sift the tea after.

Steep the tea and ginger for 10 minutes in the fridge. Pour the tea into a pitcher a squeeze the lime juice into the tea. Place the pitcher back into the fridge to allow to cool for another 30 minutes.

hibiscus-drink

Pour the hibiscus Fresca over ice to serve and add more lime juice if you’d like!
