What Is a Blue Lagoon Mocktail?
A blue lagoon mocktail is a non-alcoholic version of a blue lagoon, the summer cocktail known for its eye-catching hue.
Traditionally, blue lagoon mocktails are made from a mix of blue curacao syrup, lemonade, and lemon-lime soda. Since these are high in sugar, artificial colors, and other inflammatory ingredients, we thought it was time for an upgrade.
That’s why we created our own clean version of the iconic summer drink. It has the same brilliant color and citrusy flavor as classic blue lagoon mocktails. Only ours is packed with electrolytes and superfoods to help you stay hydrated and nourished all summer long.
A Clean Twist on the Classic Summer Drink
Here’s a look at some benefits of the ingredients in this healthy blue lagoon mocktail:
Blue spirulina is antioxidant-rich
Most blue lagoon mocktail recipes get their vivid hue from blue curacao syrup, a non-alcoholic alternative to blue curacao liqueur. While blue curacao syrup is alcohol-free, it’s loaded with sugar and synthetic food dyes that can disrupt your gut.
Our blue lagoon mocktail gets its stunning color from a natural, far healthier option: blue spirulina. This nutrient-dense extract is derived from blue-green algae and boasts powerful health benefits. Its primary compound? Phycocyanin, a plant pigment with impressive anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
Antioxidants like phycocyanin protect the body from oxidative stress caused by sun exposure and environmental pollution. Since time outside tends to increase in the summer, spirulina offers a simple way to get extra antioxidant support.
Lemonade gets a clean upgrade
Blue lagoon mocktail recipes typically use lemonade as the base ingredient. This delivers the bright, citrusy flavor the drink is known for, but it also comes with a lot of refined sugar.
For our clean version, we created our own healthy lemonade with a mix of fresh lemon juice and coconut water. This gives the mocktail the same tart sweetness while bringing extra health benefits to the table.
Coconut water is often referred to as "nature's sports drink.” It has a rich electrolyte profile that includes magnesium, calcium, and sodium. It's especially high in potassium, a mineral crucial for healthy nerve and muscle function. Coconut water’s natural sugars also enhance the flavor of this drink, without making it overly sweet.
Hydrate replenishes electrolytes
To boost the hydration benefits of this mocktail (as well as the taste), we've included a packet of Hydrate, our premium electrolyte blend. Each packet supplies over 19 essential vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes.
Hydrate also has a delicious lemonade flavor that pairs perfectly with this mocktail. And since it's sweetened with monk fruit, it's low glycemic and easy on your blood sugar.
How to Make a Blue Lagoon Mocktail
Makes 1 serving

Ingredients
- ¼ tsp blue spirulina
- 1 packet Hydrate electrolytes
- ½ cup coconut water
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- ½ cup sparkling water
- 5 drops monk fruit sweetener (to taste)
- Ice
- Lemon slice or wedge for garnish
- Optional: sprig of fresh mint (for garnish)
- Directions

-
Place the blue spirulina and Hydrate in a small bowl.

-
Add the coconut water and lemon juice. Whisk until the electrolyte powder dissolves and no clumps of blue spirulina remain.
-
Fill a large glass ⅔ full with ice.

-
Pour the blue spirulina mixture over the ice. Top with sparkling water and give it a good stir.
-
Add the monk fruit sweetener and stir again. Do a taste test until it reaches your desired level of sweetness.
-
Garnish with a lemon slice and a fresh sprig of mint if desired. If using the mint, smack it between your hands before adding it to the glass. This helps release the mint’s oils into your mocktail.
-
Sip away and enjoy!

Recipe Tips & Variations
- Add more spirulina: If you’d prefer a deeper blue color, add a bit more spirulina. Up to ½ tsp will work.
- Garnish ideas: Lemon wheels are the traditional garnish for this drink, but feel free to get creative! Edible flowers, a sprig of basil, a fresh cherry, a cocktail umbrella, or a fruit skewer with berries are all great options.
- Use kombucha: For a gut-loving boost, consider swapping half of the sparkling water for kombucha. Ginger or ginger-lemon varieties would pair well with this recipe.
- Swap the sweetener: No monk fruit on hand? Use another clean sweetener like coconut nectar or maple syrup (if not cleansing).
