Plant-Based Protein Power With A Tahini Mango Smoothie

Nut and seed butter have long been on the rise as a popular source of plant protein and good-for-you fats. It expanded beyond the classic peanut butter into almond and cashew butter, but we also love tahini which can easily be used in sweet and savory dishes alike. We think you’ll love this combination of a creamy tahini mango smoothie.

No bananas here

Frozen mango is an excellent replacement for bananas while cleansing. We remove bananas since they are so high in sugar and starch, but it can make smoothie-making challenging for some since many smoothies use bananas as their base. We love mangos because they provide the thick, creamy texture bananas are known for. They are have a high water content and provide a tropical-sweetness we can’t get enough of.

Mangoes are high in an antioxidant called zeaxanthin, which helps to filter out harmful blue light rays (think of it as sunscreen for your eyes)! With the amount of screen time modern-society creates, it’s more important than ever to protect our eyes from macular degeneration by eating an antioxidant-rich diet and spending ample time away from smartphones and television.

Tahini is dreamy

We love using tahini in this sweet recipe since it adds a creamy texture and a healthy dose of fat and protein. Tahini is made from ground sesame seeds and comes with a slew of nutritional benefits. It’s rich in phosphorous, magnesium, iron, and potassium. It’s also an incredible source of the amino acid methionine, which helps the body detoxify. Specifically, methionine helps repair and rebuild the liver. Healthy liver function is crucial for ensuring proper detoxification of the body, and consuming foods that support liver health is a great place to start.

Spice of life

Cinnamon is one of our favorite spices to use in sweet recipes. It adds a subtle spiciness and also brings out the sweetness of the foods it flavors. Cinnamon has warming properties that encourage blood flow by relaxing blood vessels, making it amazing for heart health. Its warming properties also help increase the metabolism, which can help you maintain a healthy weight balance when consumed regularly.
